The Walled Garden
Set within the existing walls of a Georgian property in Faringdon, Oxfordshire, this garden was designed to balance the historic character of the house with the owners’ preference for a relaxed, contemporary landscape. The design responds to an existing modern extension, creating two distinct seating areas connected by pale natural stone paving and informal planting.
Lavender-filled island beds soften the generous paved spaces, while a wild pond is integrated into the seating area. Clean architectural edges contrast with naturalistic, wildlife-friendly planting, allowing plants to spill into gravel and soften the boundaries between different materials and areas. The result is a garden that feels contemporary without losing its connection to the historic setting.
