A large contemporary landscape shaped by the curves and spirals found in nature.

I wanted the curves in the garden to reflect the movement I experienced in the landscape — in the water and the wind, in the eddies and spirals. These flowing lines create structure and meaning for the garden as a whole and for the separate spaces within it: wrapping around field maple trees to form ‘an entrance’, opening into seating areas, intersecting and leading you towards the stream, woodland and lake.

There is, we hope, a sculptural quality to the curves themselves, but they also create a journey through the very different environments contained within this space. Boundaries between these places are deliberately loose, allowing them to overlap and reflect the way natural systems blend and interact rather than existing in isolation.

Planting also reflects these ideas. Closer to the house, more ornamental planting forms sculptural, curving swathes and loose flowing lines, gradually becoming more naturalistic as the garden interacts with the wild spaces surrounding it.
